The City of Exeter

The City of Exeter

Exeter is a city in the south west of England. It is a regional city in the county of Devon and is bordered by sea, moorland and beautiful countryside.

Exeter has excellent transport links. It is accessed by the M5 and also has an airport from which it is possible to access many destinations including European and UK cities. The Dartmoor National Park is approximately a half an hour drive from Exeter and is a popular destination for tourists and locals alike. There are plenty of things to do within the park whether you are interested in hiking, looking for some of the many 'letterboxes' that are scattered over the moor, horse riding, or visiting some of the many historic building and towns.

Exeter city centre has recently undergone some development and is now home to the Princesshay shopping complex. This is a collection of shops and restaurants housed in a sort of 'outside shopping mall'. However, there are many things that the city centre can offer besides shopping. Exeter has a beautiful cathedral that dates from 1050 as well as some very interesting architecture dating back many hundreds of years.

It also home to notable organisation such as the MET office which collects weather information for the whole of the UK and organisations such as Devon County Council and the Police which have headquarters in the city. Alongside Exeter University both the Met Office and Devon County Council are some of the biggest employers in the area and support a lot of local people in employment.

Exeter also benefits from excellent transport links to the rest of the south-west region and to the UK and beyond. It has an airport with regular flights that leave to many destinations within the UK and Europe as well as being at the end of the M5 motorway and the A30. This helps to support it as a popular destination for visitors whether from the UK or abroad.
